Reception Centre For Fire Evacuees

USPA NEWS - For wildfire evacuees in Nova Scotia, the NSCC Middleton campus located at 295 Commercial St, Middleton, will serve as a reception centre for those in need. This resource will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those who require overnight shelter or assistance outside these hours, they can contact a dedicated hotline at 1-800-222-9597, as stated by the Government of Nova Scotia.
Long Lake Fire Update As of August 19th, 10 AM The Long Lake wildfires complex remains at an estimated 3,210 hectares. Crews accomplished considerable progress yesterday through the strategic use of dozer guards and an air tanker group dispatched from New Brunswick. Fortunately, reports indicate no damage to residential homes.
As of 12:50, Tuesday: The Long Lake wildfires complex remains unchanged in size and status. Crews are continuing to construct dozer guards today, while firefighters and air resources focus on fire suppression efforts. No reports of damage to homes. Air resources currently deployed include four NTW planes and one contracted helicopter. Ground resources consist of 93 DNR firefighters, 22 from Ontario, and 25 local firefighters.
The Long Lake wildfire remains uncontrolled, and a change in wind direction has resulted in smoke being detectable in other parts of Nova Scotia. Please take this into account when assessing potential fires in your community. If you observe visible flames, a column of smoke with a defined source, black/brown smoke, or any other indication of an active fire, please contact 911 or the Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-565-2224.
As of 7pm, Tuesday, the Long Lake wildfires complex continues to rage out of control, exhibiting increased intensity, despite only marginal growth south of Five Finger Lake. The official size estimate remains steady at 3210 hectares, with no reported damage to homes. Crews are diligently working on dozer guards, supported by a team of 135 firefighters from local and out of province agencies. Reinforcements from Ontario are expected to arrive tomorrow. Air resources presently comprise 4 NTW planes and 1 contracted helicopter, augmented by a brief visit from three CL215T planes from Alberta, loaned to New Brunswick. Additional air resources are expected to deploy tomorrow. The next update will be provided in the morning.
