As of 12:54 on Friday August 22nd, Firefighters and aircraft are continuing to work on the Long Lake wildfires complex. The fire remains out of control, and the size has slightly increased to 3212 hectares. No homes have been damaged.
All aircraft are still on scene along with 52 DNR, 42 Ontario, 5 PEl and 45 local firefighters. As wind picks up from Hurricane Erin, some resources may need to stand down.
The Department of Natural Resources reports that the West Dalhousie / Long Lake Wildfire has expanded by an additional 2 hectares this afternoon, and still remains out of control. Winds have increased substantially in the Annapolis Valley this afternoon, causing additional challenges.
ANNAPOLIS COUNTY, NS, AUGUST 22, 2025 The Municipality of the County of Annapolis has reconfirmed the State of Local Emergency in response to the ongoing West Dalhousie wildfires, which remain uncontained. This reconfirmation extends the municipal State of Local Emergency for an additional seven days, unless terminated or further renewed. During this time, residents are reminded to adhere to all official instructions and directives from emergency officials. The declaration also continues to prohibit price inflation for essential goods and services, ensuring residents maintain fair access to supplies during this crisis.
The Municipality reiterates its commitment to working closely with provincial partners, fire services, the Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office, and community organizations to coordinate response efforts and provide support to affected residents. Residents are advised to monitor official updates from the Annapolis Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) and other official government sources. The Long Lake wildfires complex remains out of control. A revised size estimate, reflecting some growth, is anticipated once crews are able to reassess the area; the timing of this reassessment is yet to be determined. No homes have been damaged to date, according to DNR.
Despite challenging conditions, firefighters worked throughout the day to reinforce dozer guards on the north side of the fire and continue construction in other strategic locations. Aircraft focused on supporting these ground efforts.
